Emmy Awards 2023 : Vir Das Creates History, Wins First Emmy Award for Best Comedy

For his special stand-up comedy show “Vir Das : Landing,” Indian actor and comedian Vir Das won an Emmy Award in the Best Comedy Series category. I was told this information by the organiser.

Monday night’s award ceremony took place in New York.

For the first time in this category, Vir Das won the Emmy Award after receiving two nominations. In the third season of the well-liked British teen comedy series “Derry Girls,” Vir  shared the trophy.

Vir called receiving the Best Comedy Series International Emmy “an unprecedented honour that is a dream come true.”

“Winning an Emmy in the comedy category for ‘Vir Das: The Landing’ is an achievement not just for me, but for the entire Indian comedy world,” Vir Das said in a press release. I’m happy to see “Vir Das: Landing” gain international traction. We are grateful to Netflix, Reg Tigerman, and Akash Sharma for making it so memorable.

Additionally, Vir is the first comedian from India to accomplish this.

Shefali Shah and Jim Sarve are two other Indian artists nominated for the international awards ceremony.

For the second season of the Netflix series “Delhi Crime,” Shah was nominated for best actress; however, Mexican actor Carla Souza of “La Qaeda (The Dive)” defeated her to take home the title.

Jim Cerve, the star of “Rocket Boys,” also failed to win an actor nomination despite giving his best performance. In this category, “The Responder,” starring Martin Freeman, took home the prize.
